About
Having just moved to Koln, to commence a post-doctoral fellowship at the The Institute for Exercise and Sport Gerontology, DSHS. The project is European Funded investigation working alongside the University of Siegen and the additional partners in the Netherlands, Spain, Austria and Australia. The objective of the project is to identify effective prevention tools through the use of exergames and iTV over a 3 year period.
Previously, I was a post-doctoral student at the University of Waterloo, Canada at the David R.Cheriton School of Computer Science. The project I worked on involved digital technologies, HDTV, video usage by audiences and was funded by GRAND.
Additionally, I was the Technology Chair for ESPO (Emerging Scholar & Professional Organisation) the student arm of GSA (Gerontological Society of America), which terminated November 2010. In conjunction with this position I was the Senior Student Representative for the Membership Committee which also terminated November 2010. I enjoyed my time during these positions which involved the continuation and enhancement of communication to current and new ESPO members of GSA through the use of Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
I currently hold several professional memberships including the BSG (British Society of Gerontology), ISG (International Society of Gerontechnology) and DIGRA (Digital Games Research Associaiton).
Prior to commencing my post-doc fellow in Canada, I worked at Swansea University, Human & Health Sciences School (10 weeks). The project encompassed data analysis of qualitative data collected from individuals residing in Residential homes, Extra Care facilties and Community within North and South Wales. The focus concentrated upon a comparison of factilities and activities within Residential and Extra Care settings. I reviewed the collected data to establish whether Extra Care facilities support mental and physical frailty. This was just one element of the overal project, commissioned by the Welsh Assembly Government, the PI's for this project were Professor Vanessa Burholt and Professor Judith Philips.
During my graduate studies at Teesside University, School of Computing, I assisted fellow academics with teaching, primarily supporting students within tutorials. The modules which I assisted were New Media Futures (Level 3), Games Futures (Level 3) and History of Games (Level 1). End of year marking of exam scripts and assignments was undertaken as part of the role.
